New type created in 1982 when PEI implemented their part of the Canadian Agreement on Vehicle Registration (CAVR) for sharing of heavy truck and bus registration fees with other provinces based on actual distances travelled. PEI joined the Canada/US International Registration Plan (IRP) in 2001 but the PRP caption continued and there was no visible effect on plates. PEI PRP plates have always been issued as singles.
